DÉFIPLASTIK EXPÉDITIONS
These are three scientific and educational expeditions departing from Reunion for a total journey of 10,000 km in the heart of the Indian Ocean gyre.
The pollution of the oceans by plastic waste is one of the main causes of the degradation of the marine ecosystem.
OBJECTIVES OF THE EXPEDITIONS
The objective is to locate and quantify the plastic and micro plastic present in the Indian Ocean.
It is also to involve the public, opinion leaders and business leaders on the urgent need to find solutions..
SCIENTIST :
Take surveys to locate and quantify the amount of plastic present in the Indian Ocean gyre.
EDUCATIVE :
Inform young people of Réunion on the phenomenon in order to encourage them to reduce their plastic consumption.
SENSITIZATION :
Involve the public, opinion leaders and business leaders of Réunion on the urgent need to find solutions quickly.
PLASTIC POLLUTION OF THE OCEANS
With its 450 year lifespan, plastic has become the king of the oceans. Bad news, its presence continues to increase. According to a recent CNRS study, it has now reached the Arctic sea ice and threatens its fauna.
